Summary of counsel conduct dispositions FY 2025 to 2026

The following summary report of alleged professional conduct violations by counsel was published in line with the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada's (IRB) Policy on Disclosing Information Regarding the Conduct of Authorized Representatives to Regulatory Bodies and associated procedures.

In FY 2025 to 2026 the IRB took action on 45 counsel conduct matters:

  • disclosed information about counsel conduct to a regulatory body in 20 cases.
    • of the 20 cases:
      • 16 involved lawyers regulated by provincial bar associations.
      • 4 involved consultants regulated by the College of Immigration and Citizenship Consultants.  
  • took informal action, writing letters to counsel, in 8 of the matters.
  • determined not to act in 17 matters ​(e.g., conduct was not considered sufficiently serious to warrant action, insufficient evidence)​.
