The Notice of appeal - sponsorship form (PDF, 821 KB) can only be used to appeal the refusal of an application for a permanent resident visa for a sponsored family member. Only the sponsor (not the sponsored family members) can appeal the refusal decision by Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).

You cannot appeal the refusal of a temporary resident visa (visitor, student, worker).

Before completing this form, see making a sponsorship appeal for information on:

  • who can submit an appeal

Documents required: You must provide a completed notice of appeal form and a copy of the refusal letter sent to the person you sponsored.

Time limit: Your appeal documents must be received by the Immigration Appeal Division within 30 days of receiving the decision refusing the permanent resident visa.

Where to send your documents: You must send your documents to the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada (IRB) regional office serving the province you currently reside. You are encouraged to send your documents by email.
