Executive Director and Chief Financial Officer (CFO)
Jason Choueiri was appointed Executive Director of the Immigration and Refugee Board on September 19, 2018. As a senior executive within the federal public service, he brings significant experience across a broad range of disciplines including strategic management, business transformation and change management, program and project management, and corporate services.
Previously, Mr. Choueiri was the Director General, Transformation Planning, Design and Oversight at Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), where he led the development and implementation of multi-year service improvement strategies and service design practices. In this role, Mr. Choueiri founded ESDC’s Acceleration Hub, an innovative and collaborative space where clients and employees use design-thinking methods to co-create service delivery improvements. Prior to this, he served as the Director General, Strategic Directions where he developed the long-term vision for the modernization of Canada’s three largest statutory programs (Employment Insurance, Canada Pension Plan, and Old Age Security) and oversaw the provision of management services to a branch of over 1000 employees.
Mr. Choueiri has also held several senior roles at Shared Services Canada, National Defense and Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada where he led complex government and department-wide change initiatives, led and managed various major crown projects and complex procurements, and supported red-tape reduction for small and medium enterprises.
Mr. Choueiri has a Master’s degree in Business Administration as well as Bachelor of Commerce, Specialization in Management of Information Systems from the University of Ottawa. He is a recipient of the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee Medal in recognition of his contributions to Canada.
