On June 28, Bill C-31, the Protecting Canada's Immigration System Act, received Royal Assent. This Act amends both the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act and the Balanced Refugee Reform Act. While no official date for the coming into force of the relevant provisions of both these Acts has been provided, the IRB is working diligently to ensure it is ready to implement the changes that result, when required. The new law establishes a Refugee Appeal Division within the IRB.
